Lockmates

Terms of use

Effective date: October 5, 2026 (added section 5, Lockmates Founders and waitlist gifts). These terms are an agreement between you and 1901 Technologies Inc. ("we"), 1025 King St E, Unit 107 #1771, Cambridge, ON N3H 3P5, Canada, about the Lockmates game and website.

1. Who can play

You must be at least 13, or at least 16 in the European Union, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Lockmates is not available in Quebec yet. During the invite-only beta, you need an invite or a place from the waitlist to create an account; guests can still play in a member's room by link.

2. Your account

Keep your sign-in secure; you're responsible for what happens on your account. Your player name is generated by us; we may replace it if it's reported or causes problems. You can download your data and delete your account at any time from the Me screen.

3. Playing fair and being kind

Follow the Code of conduct. In short: no harassment, no cheating or automated play, no exploiting bugs, no impersonation, no trying to get other players' clues. We may warn, suspend or ban accounts that break the rules, and remove results from leaderboards. You can appeal by emailing appeals@playlockmates.com.

4. Invites

Members get a small number of invites. Invites are personal; selling or trading them isn't allowed.

5. Lockmates Founders and waitlist gifts

Who is a founder. When the game opens to everyone, we fix the list once: the first 1,000 people on the waitlist by their place in line at that moment (signup order, moved up for friends who joined through their link) become Lockmates Founders. The founder number and badge show on the game account that signs in with that waitlist email, or with the invite we sent to it.

What it is, and what it isn't. "Founder" is a recognition inside the game, given as a token of appreciation for joining early. It does not make you a founder, co-founder, partner, employee, agent or shareholder of 1901 Technologies Inc. It gives you no ownership, equity, shares, options, profit share, vote, or any other right or interest in the company or its business. By joining the waitlist and by playing, you agree to this.

Gifts and early access. From time to time we may give founders gifts in the game (such as cosmetic items) or early access to new content. They are up to us: we may change or stop them, they have no cash value, and they can't be sold, traded or transferred. Founder status is personal to your account; it ends if your account is deleted or ended for breaking these terms.

The Halloween set. Everyone who joins the waitlist before a date we announce gets the Halloween character set free, as a thank-you. Characters you get this way stay yours. From next year the set may return each Halloween as a paid set.

6. Purchases

Who can buy. Purchases are for adults 18 and over, signed in to an account. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to buy for you.

What you can buy. The Lockmates Pass, a monthly subscription for you: you can replay past daily rooms and host them for your crew (who play free in your room), and you get 5 extra hints each paid month. The Crew Pass, a monthly subscription for you and everyone in your crew (up to 4 players): each of them gets the same as the Lockmates Pass, including their own 5 hints each paid month. It covers whoever is in your crew at the time: a player who joins your crew is covered, and a player who leaves it stops being covered at once (their pass hints end too, unless another pass covers them). You need a crew to buy it, and a crew can have one Crew Pass. The person who buys it manages and pays for it. Hint packs of 5 hints, for your own use in online rooms. Premium characters, when we sell them: each one is yours to keep, changes only how you look and never how you play, and stops showing if it is refunded. With a pass you may also download up to 10 past rooms to play with no connection, when we offer it: each works for 30 days or until your pass ends, whichever comes first, is always unranked, and earns coins and experience when you're back online. Bought hints unlock after a room's free hints, add the same time to ranked results as free ones, and never improve your rank. Hints, coins and other virtual items have no cash value and can't be exchanged for money or moved to another account.

Prices and payment. Prices are shown in the shop before you pay, in Canadian dollars in Canada and US dollars elsewhere, plus any sales tax (such as GST/HST), which is shown at checkout. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your full card number.

Renewal and cancelling. The Lockmates Pass and the Crew Pass each renew every month at the price shown until you cancel. You can cancel online at any time in the game (Me, Subscription, Manage subscription). Cancelling stops the next renewal and you are not charged again; you (and, for a Crew Pass, your crew) keep past rooms and pass hints until the end of the month you paid for, and they end then. There are no partial refunds for the rest of a month. Before you pay, Stripe's checkout shows these terms and asks you to agree to them, and we email you a confirmation with the price, the renewal and how to cancel. We'll tell you before any price change applies to you.

Cancelling within 14 days (EU, EEA and UK). If you live in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can cancel a new Lockmates Pass or Crew Pass (its first payment, not a monthly renewal), a hint pack or a premium character within 14 days of paying, under Me in the game (or by emailing support). A cancelled pass ends at once, with its past rooms and hints (for a Crew Pass, for the whole crew); a cancelled hint pack's hints are removed; a cancelled character is no longer yours to wear. The first time you do this, you get a full refund. After that, a new purchase starts right away only if you agree to it before paying ("Start my pass now. If I cancel within 14 days, I’m refunded only for the days I haven’t used."), and cancelling it within 14 days refunds only the part you haven't used: for a pass, the days left in the paid month (a day you started counts as used); for a hint pack, the hints you haven't used. A character that starts right away this way can't be cancelled for a refund afterwards, and we say so before you pay. We keep a record of that agreement and when you gave it.

Refunds. Otherwise, payments are not refundable except where the law where you live says otherwise, or where we choose to. If something went wrong, email support@playlockmates.com. If a payment is refunded, the hints it added are removed (those already used stay used).

7. Things you create

This section applies once players can make and share rooms. You keep your rights, give us a licence to host and show them in Lockmates, and must not upload anything you don't have the right to. We will name our designated agent for copyright complaints here before that feature opens.

8. Our rights

The game, its art, sounds, puzzles and code belong to us or our licensors. Don't copy, resell or reverse engineer them, except where the law allows.

9. The beta

The beta is a test. Things may change, break or be reset (for example progress or leaderboards) while we fix problems. We'll tell players before a reset when we can.

10. Disclaimers and liability

The game is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months (or CAD $50 if you paid nothing). Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law.

11. Ending

You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We may end or suspend access for breaking these terms, or end the service with reasonable notice.

12. Law

Ontario law and the federal laws of Canada apply, unless the consumer law where you live says otherwise.

13. Changes and contact

We'll update the effective date and tell players in the game before important changes apply. Questions: support@playlockmates.com.
